‘Wait For It’ marks a turning point in the career of Frances Baker. She has moved away from her previously sample-heavy songwriting style with grandeur, as beautifully produced and masterfully arranged strings sweep us toward a tender ballad. When the texture drops, her heavenly voice is isolated above a jazzy guitar accompaniment that retains the retro style. The strings, provided by Nebulous Quartet create an incredible sonic palette throughout the track, even return with some playful pizzicato in the bridge. She sums up the track as being about “when you feel like there is no  answer as to why what happened happened.” Her debut LP, Blossom, is gearing up for release later in 2024. -Dan Peeke
